i wrote this song based off of 2 things that have had a great impact in my life. a band called My Chemical Romance, and a quote from one of my favorite movies Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
the quote is “We met at the wrong time. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. Maybe one day years from now, we’ll meet in a coffee shop in a far away city somewhere and we could give it another shot.” i’ve always loved this quote. just thinking about a past relationship you’ve had, you gave your whole world to that person. you shared similarities and so many stories and built a life together. i’m sure at one point you thought you would spend the rest of your life with that person. then the next moment they’re not in your life anymore. it’s a really tough transition to go through. i think everything in life does happen for a reason, and to imagine running into that person you once gave your life to, years and years down the road in a completely different place in the world is a wild thing to imagine. maybe the idea sounds better than the reality, but it’s a quote that always stuck with me.

my chemical romance is the other inspiration behind this song. specifically the album three cheers for sweet revenge. that album defined my childhood, i grew up on that album, so it holds a special place in my life. so i wanted to incorporate it into the lyrics. when i think of just the name “my chemical romance” i think about a toxic relationship, or one that’s just not working out. and that’s what inspired the whole song. a couple who once saw the world in each others eyes, had their differences, and ended up parting. battling through the heartbreak and all that comes with it. wondering if they met at the wrong time and thinking that maybe they could reconnect in the future. my chemical romance
