I wrote this song about a high school relationship. A lot of people find their first real love in high school. No matter how old you are, it's a lot to process. You're feeling all these different emotions for the first time, and they can make you feel like you're on top of the world. It’s truly a beautiful feeling. Doing all these things as a couple for the first time in your life. Like your first kiss, sleeping on the beach for the first time, going to your first party or getting drunk. It all feels like a whirlwind. When you’re young, you make all these promises that you have full intentions of keeping with each other but, not all relationships last forever, especially at 16. The promise in this song was to leave their hometown together, and finally experience what life is. But they never got to. I always hear “right person, wrong time” and that's what this song is about. Meeting the perfect person for you in high school, but being too young to know how to make it work. You go your separate ways and wake up 10 years later. You start reminiscing on all those memories that made you feel euphoric, and can't help but wonder, where they are now.
